Hi there everyone.. am relatively new to the hobby although I've kept freshwater for 15 years.. I have a 220 gallon tank that measures in feet (5 X 2.5 X 2.5) (L X W X D).
I don't get sicce, vortex, tune in India and I was not aware of the gyre or the less expensive but similar jebao pumps..
Currently for water flow, I am using the following:
1. Left hand side is sunsun 12000 litres per hour. Placed 5 inches below the water line aimed at the top surface of the tank at the centre.
2. Right hand side is another sunsun but half the capacity of the above and same placement.
3. A top filter powerhead capacity 3500 litres per hour on the left hand side close the corner with the back of the tank.. placed about 12 inches below waterline.. this can only push water straight forward..
4. Another top filter power head woh the same capacity on the back of the tank about 18 inches off the right hand side.
5. The return pump capacity is 3500 litres per hour and the water flows bingo the tank from the right hand side. I have given it two outlets one toward the front side and the other towards the back-end of the aquarium..

I still have dead spots and I get mostly the reddish-brown algae that grows on the substrate...
I have a mixed reef tank and a sump that has a 80 gallon capacity..

Is there a scientific method to aim the flow that will cover all areas or a proven methodology.. or is my arrangement woefully inadequate...

Please let me know if I need to provide any more information..

It's largely thanks to this forum that I've learnt a lot, have been following your posts daily for the past 6 months... but I've just started posting now...

Cheers, Ram

Are the top sun filter powerbeads actual HOB filters?

On that size tank I'd recommend 3-4 powerheads that total up to about 30-50X turnover rate for a mixed tank. Two powerheads on each side, one pointing low and towards the back (behind the rock) and the other pointing high towards the front, usually creates minimal dead zones.
