How to feed flame scallop

Owned this flame scallop for about a week now. Looks good and there’s no sign of stress, and it found itself a nice little rock crevice.

I hear they can go on for months before basically spontaneously dying. This is my first scallop, I have experience keeping a red tree sponge, which I’ve kept alive with great success using exclusively a few drops of reef nutrition phyto feast every day and nothing else… it’s recommended to use live phyto straight from your culture for those sponges but I find that to not be the case.

Wondering if the scallop will be happy with phyto feast, or if I should look into other methods.

BUMP, I have no idea who even keeps a flame scallop on this forum. @RoanokeReef might have one..

They are filter feeders. I think you'll need to be sure to dose phyto regularly.

I have one since July - it too found a spot under a bridge where it's trying to catch anything that swims by.

Until recently I never dosed phyto but when I feed frozen mysis there is a lot of "marine snow" in the tank as I dont pre-rinse anything. This looks similar to the "floaters" in the waters where these are found.

I was told they dont last but I am willing to try. So far its been 3 months and it looks perfectly fine.

I think they just need a mature tank, I also dose marine snow just in case they eat that.. sponges love it tho

It lasted about 6-7 months for me, then an empty shell overnight but.......I think it wasnt a nutrients issue though, maybe.

Well, I took nearly 20 predatory whelks out of my tank recently that were more than likely responsible for my trochus snails being killed off one by one.

Let's just say I thought they were nassarius when introduced. Joke's on me.

I have had mine for about 8 months now. I dont target feed it anything. It hides alot and moves around and i can normally spot it when I see the white feeding tentacles out. I never seen it do the little electric arc though.

Forgot to add its older than the tank its in now. About a month after i got it went bigger on a tank and it survived that cycling. Of course i Used half live rock and half life rock not straight dry
Also by cycling i mean filled the tank waited for the sand cloud to clear and transfered everything over.

hey, sorry for getting back so late.

the thing is still alive! I just feed phyto feast every now and then, no issues.

legit hasn’t moved from its spot or does it look any different. there was like a 2 week period where I wasn’t dosing the tank with phyto feast and it thugged it out. in my experience it’s pretty hardy, sometimes I forget its even in the tank lol.

edit: I should add my tank is at least 26 years old. I’m sure that’s definitely a contributing factor to its survival.
