How to place anemone

Hi everyone!

I want this guy to be nice and face up so that he can show me his tentacles. What i see now is only his butt (or mouth, not sure).

Let me know your ideas.

I want to let him stick to the rocks.

That's its "foot". They will settle where they are happy. You can encourage it to move somewhere else by pointing a powerhead there.

I would put some covers over those powerheads. Anemones love flow so they head for powerheads. They have a mind of their own as far as placement. They like a lot of flow so if you have a lot of flow on your rock work they will head there. Once in a position feed the anemone once a week with some Mysis shrimp.

Looks like a ritteri to me, if it is they LOVE high flow. definitely get some covers over the powerheads so you dont walk into a night mare.
it will find its happy place on its own so just let it do its thing. my 3 BTA's havent moved in two plus years

I was thinking ritteri too. If it is they like to be as close as possible to the light and really high flow.

after seeing this pic it looks more like a sabae which prefer being in the sand bed with their foot attached to a rock, can you get us a few pics of the nem itself??

I think it's a sabae too. Use foam to cover around the power heads. A MP 10 foam would might work on that or you can go to home depot and cut it out yourself.

I cant imagine how to cover the propeller and with foam??? Got no clue...

Here is a example of what it looks like. Foam on the outside of the power head.

My trick for getting anenomes to stay out and they never move for me. I kill the power to my power heads when placing them and place them in a crevice in the rock which if bothered they can retract into. About two hours later I poke it and see if its attached. If it is I turn my power heads on and watch it closely for a few days.

The guy sat there from yesterday. Seems like its being nice. But it is touching some other sps. Do you think it can mess them up?

That is a nice healthy looking purple Heteractis magnifica (Ritteri), it will continue to climb until it finds the highest spot on your rock work, and can do damage to your SPS along the way. I would put it on the left rock structure and move the SPS near it, you can start placing SPS back on that structure once the mag settles at a spot for a while. This would be your best course of action, leaving it on the right structure is not recommended as long as your lighting is sufficient to sustain it on the left structure.

If you see it deflate, it's almost always a sign of a mag being sick, they don't deflate when they're healthy. You should look into treatment with ciprofloxacin so you know what may be needed.
