I will need to shun my DIY aquarium stand made of 2x4 however I’m wondering how I can prevent my composite shims from sliding out of place. I have wood laminate floor that are kind slippery for stuff like that. I experienced this issue with my 45 gallon tank and eventually tank failed at seams. So for my new 100 gallon I would like to prevent this. Any suggestions?

The shim should not slide if it is inserted properly and weight is on it. If it moved out of place before it was because it was not placed high enough.

If your shims are sliding, they're either made of teflon or are actually deforming under load. Neither should be an issue :)

You are using them incorrectly..

Each shim is a wedge shape. Slide the wide end under the area you are leveling about half of what you need. Slide the narrow end on top of that one and push until you are at the right height needed. The two shims should create a flat Level surface for the Cabinet to sit on. The cabinet should not be sitting on a slope. Once you fill the tank score the excess with a Utility knife and snap it off .

Remember shim along the whole surface every 6 to 8 inches around the base. NOT just the corners..

Hope this helps solve your problems and good Luck Happy Shimming now that you have the proper method ..
