How To Remove Glued PVC Pipe

:eek::eek: For $50 per 1.5" ball valve??? I would have been forced to find a cheaper way to drain water from my tank!! I know standard ball valves can be too stiff and lack unions, but they're $15 and you can use a channel-lock to make turning them as easy as it should be. Were the unions strictly necessary?

Or do a pilot project first with cheaper parts or only hard plumbing...cut out the hard pipe where the tru-union goes when you have everything else finalized.

U telling me they don't sell replacement union collars for those? No way in **** I'd give $50 for a part like that that's unserviceable.

But if you somehow got me to do that....then yes at $50 I might attempt a save vs recycle. But I'd be cursing Cepex for not selling replacement union collars the whole time. :p:p:p

Huh! I have to admit I'm surprised I've never seen this before! Most excellent.

My 1.5" valve were expensive, but I've had ones cheaper leak. I won't take the risk of that happening again!

I got so tired of wasting money or waiting (I like to use schd 80 for aesthetic reasons) on fittings that I ended up buying reamers for this very reason. Great video!

Asahi ball valves are just as pricey. It is what I use on my 2.5" pipes. I would definitely do this if needed.

Great DIY. I've seen the pros use pipe reamers (as @143MPCo mentioned) as well as this goop they coated the inside of the pipe with and then lit on fire to soften the glue joint.

NOTE OF CAUTION With any of these methods, the fumes coming off that heated PVC is Chlorine gas....and when it comes in contact with water.....like in your eyes, nose and throat....it immediately turns into hydroclhoric acid (HCl). So definitely do this in a well ventilated area.

Nope, no replacement collars. Trust me... i looked!
They're nice valves. I don't have to run Ecotech or GHL equipment either but it's good stuff and worth it to me. ;)
I have since found a happy medium with some other ball valves that are about half that price and just as smooth, but still. Both are completely serviceable, btw.
And I'm talking about changing things up 2 years later. Not a mistake made in plumbing.
