Hi all,

I've had my 200 gallon reef tank set up for the past month and just cracked the skimmer configuration. Great news for me and the tank but the wife isn't happy with the smell, i assume its from the skimmer as i have a closed aquarium with glass lids and pelmet.

I've seen online that placing a carbon filter mat on the top of the skimmer lid will absorb the smell. Does that work or does anyone have any other ideas?

Many thanks

If the smell is coming from the tank/water, run activated carbon in the system as that will help remove any odours or colouring of the water. I use it 24/7

If it is coming from the sump/skimmer, personally I have a neutralising air freshener in the sump cabinet and it stops any smells. It’s not very scented or anything though.

Cheers for the help. I’m running activated carbon in the tank using one of these.

I will buy a neutralising air freshener to combat the smell.
