how to remove xenia from rock

i bought this purple bonsai frag/colony from a local and there are some xenia, which while nice, i think are bothering the sps and i also dont want it to spread.

whats the best way to remove it to either put on a frag plug or just remove it in general?

It will grow like weeds.. I've done this a lot to tanks I've broken down and don't want xenia anywhere in what I re-sell.

I cut it as close to the rock as possible with scissors and if its close like that with other coral. I make a cover out of epoxy and try to cover the left over base so it isnt getting any light. In a few weeks it melts away and is gone.

It normally peels off fairly easy but sometimes not.

I went in with a toothbrush then a wire brush for a few of the more difficult spots. Then did a big water change to try and get the bulk of the debrie. I'll see in a month how effective I was. I'm less worried about the area I scrubbed and more concerned with the xenia chunks landing elsewhere in the tank and taking hold.

I have injected it with vinegar using a small needle. It melts in a couple days.

I hate to say this but your concern is real. Any tiny chunk is going to turn into more. I very carefully pull it off with tweezers and even then a tiny spec or 2 gets away and eventually I know where it went because it turns into a new patch. I would not ever suggest trying to scrub it off, there must have been a lot of pieces everywhere?

I just did a chemical treatment in my tank to kill green star polyps and xenia...It worked great...Google it....The only thing that didnt like it was my leather...BUT all my SPS, LPS and zoas made it....

I know this is an old post but what chemical treatments did you use to get rid of Xenia and gsp?
