1. What was the reading?
2. What test kit did you use, Api is notorious for false readings. .25ppm
3. How long has the tank been up for? Is it cycled?
4. Any new livestock additions and how fast.
5. Any one put anything in the tank that didn't belong in the tank? Too much food?
6. we need information!

The reading was 1.0 today
The api saltwater master teskit (notorious indeed)
It’s been up for almost 2 months now
Currently I’m just waiting for the nitrites to get to zero (if this ammonia spike is false)
Once was over fed with food floating in the sand bed but that was a couple days after getting fish and learning to not over feed

Once was over fed with food floating in the sand bed but that was a couple days after getting fish and learning to not over feed
And I scooped the floating food out of the tank to remove excess ammonia nitrites and nitrates

hobby test kits measure total ammonia NH3+NH4. NH3 free ammonia is the one that is toxic to livestock.
the seneye reef monitor does measure free ammonia. @brandon429 loves these ammonia post.

What level of ammonia is toxic to saltwater fish?
Marine organisms and fish tend to be more sensitive, whereas fish that have evolved to live in ponds or puddles such as carp or paradise fish tend to be less so.
...
Table of contents.

NH3 levelPPM (mg/L) FromPPM (mg/L) To
alarm0.0500.200
toxic0.2000.500
deadly0.500+
using this calculator if your 1ppm reading was legit you were probably just barely into the alert stage.

I assessed it in another thread using my nerdy new cycling science vs old cycling science routine. it will be ideal to watch troubleshooting develop over here for a multi input option yep. no peeking.
