I was gifted this crab. Looks like an emerald but I have never seen one this big. EVER! The body itself is quarter size and the arms extend to aprx 2 inches total. Is it an emerald or a green something else?

Have you all heard of Huge Emerald crab (or their look alike) killing Peppermint Shrimp?

I had 2 Peppermint shrimps for 1 year, they used to happily coexist with my fishes ans co4als and ate kept pesky Aiptesia

Last week i added 2 new Peppermint shrimps and after 2 days I see all (2 old and 2 new) gone. No trace and no shell or any leftover either

I have not seen them for 7 days now ... the 2 at least used to be out often ..

Wonder what cud have happened.

I don’t have peppermint shrimp but a skunk cleaner and a blood red cleaner shrimp in with 2 emerald crabs larger that the OP’s. No problems, they are herbivores.

My emeralds would try to catch fish all the time. You'd see a fish swimming right about it and the claws wide open reaching up.

All crabs are opportunistic, they favor greens but quickly learn the truth meat is delicious. Keep them well fed and not with anything slow.

Peppermint I wouldn't expect to get killed by one but wouldn't surprise me, especially if the shrimp just died of natural causes the crab would be on it instantly to remove the remains.

I had one about that big. I think he was 4 years old. He ate my fire shrimp during a molt. For that devilish act, I threw him in the intercoastal waterway in Jacksonville Florida. C'est la vie crab.
