Hummingbirds have Returned East Coasters!

I feed the one and only hummingbird we get on the east coast....Ruby Throated Hummingbird. If you look at the migration map HERE, they have returned. Get your feeders out. My "starting" mix is one cup of sugar made up to three cups of water. Once the season gets going, it's one cup of sugar to four cups of water.

Ours won’t show up for another month. We put out three feeders in the back yard. We get a ton of those guys here in Missouri. Fun to watch!

Here in central Arkansas I saw my first one almost 3 weeks ago. I have 4 feeders up but at present only have the one male. I think the bulk of the migration is stalled south of us due to all the cold weater we've been having. Down to 34 degrees here tomorrow night!

What species do you have in Cali? Rufous? Black Chinned? Allen's?

We only have a single species (Ruby Throat) though I have occasionally seen an off course Rufous during the fall migration. Really jealous of having many different kinds!

Too cold around here even for the early ones. Usually show up around mid May. They will actually come to my windows and hover to let us know they are here :-)

Keep an eye on that link I have in the OP....I think you'll be surprised when they are first sighted in Southern NH....they've already hit northern Conn.

We only get Emus here on western Long Island and they tend to break those feeders. :rolleyes:

We have Anna's Hummingbirds year round in the Pacific Northwest.
I keep feeders out all year.
I have covers over them so when it snows, their food is available.

I usually see different colored ones that migrate in the spring.
I thought I saw a Rufous a couple weeks ago when we had a false spring warm spell.

they are not here yet.. that map above is NOT Correct. We start seeing them around mid may to early June . We are in Louisville Kentucky...

They are awesome . My wife Bonnie will sit out back in a chair with her camera about 5 feet from the feeders to get pictures.. They have learned to trust her.Buzzing by her head like a fly

You should set one up. You might be surprised at how many there actually are.

If you do set one up, look up the how to take care of the feeder and what needs to be done to maintain them.

I am not sure what kind that we have here in Northern CA? They look like Ruby Throated Hummingbirds.
