HVAC filter to fell with skimmer micro bubbles?

Has anyone used the “cut to fit” 3m filter pads as for filtration? I’m trying to find something coarse that I can use as a sort of prefilter for my filter cups and to help remove micro bubbles produced by my skimmer. It’s pretty cheap and it says it’s washable.

These filters are not durable at all and I have no idea whether they are reef safe. Why not just use basic filter floss or if possible add a bubble chamber, basically something that guides the water over one baffle and then under another
