hey just a wondering if you are having a problem with the MH getting too hot why not take a page from the Hydroponics side and use vented Hoods and run an inline Fan then the Bulbs are Sealed in the Hood and the Air is Sucked out from within the Hoods??? just me observing Beautiful system what you are achieving is my Goal!!!.

Honestly temps aren't a major concern with me. The tank is in the coolest room in the house and even in the summer it only gets to a max of 82 degrees, Which to me isn't terrible. I'm going to wire these fans up to the canopy just in case but I doubt I will really need them.

But I agree that setup would do wonders to help lower temps because of the halides. I might just do that as well, can never be too safe, thanks!

So for a small update. I started working on the stand for my frag tank system.

Basic framing almost done. Just a couple more braces and we are set.(first pic)

Framing done and skinned in 1/4" oak and I used a piece of 1/2" blondewood I had laying around from another build for the top piece. I actually prefer the look of blondewood to oak but my local Lowe's or home depot had any in stock. Next up is staining the stand to match the stand on my 180. (2nd pic)More updates coming probably tomorrow.

First coat of minwax black wood stain is on. While waiting for that to dry I applied the black vinyl to the back of the 40b. I have some left so I might put it on the bottom glass as well.

Are you running that frag tank as a stand alone setup? I thought you were plumbing it into the 180 for some reason.

Nope, stand alone system. I don't want pvc pipe running thru my room, it would be a huge eye sore. Plus this way if something happens I have the ability to qt coral properly.

Very nice build thread, George! I also run a stand alone frag/grow out system. It is always a good idea to have a backup system, especially if something goes wrong w/ the main system.

The pack is doing well with good color and growth, especially the Thanos piece. Keep me posted if you decide to make another frag pack in the near future!

So I got some more done on the frag system tonight. Man, it's tough trying to build this thing at 3am trying to be as quiet as possible while the wife and kid sleep. But anyway here are a few pics...

0212150253.jpg

So I made a shelf to hold the electronics for the tank. I didn't want it all on the side of the stand and I didn't want it in another cabinet. So I guess this will do.

0212150253a.jpg

Here is the drawer opened up. I am going to stain it black and I still have a couple other things I will need to mount to it. This is just a quick throw together.

0212150254.jpg

Started the plumbing. The drain is complete.

0212150254a.jpg

Here it is going to the sump. I need a filter sock holder now haha.

Next up is the return. I would do it tonight but I'm beat. Maybe tomorrow I can get it done.

Awesome build man. Do you have pics for how you mounted your apex on the 180. I saw the couple you had but curious too see how it looks all cleaned up.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't have any new pics of that part of the build yet because I haven't had time to clean it up to my liking yet. But it will happen soon! And when it does I will def post an update on it.

Thanks for following along!

So I finally got off my lazy butt and did some more work on the frag system.

0216150214.jpg

Plumbing complete. I made a manifold with 2 ball valves for any reactors or such I can run off my return. I also left room on the end so if need be I can add another ball valve by cutting the end off and gluing it on.

0216150214a.jpg

Pic of the sump. I went with a mag 9.5 that I had laying around as my return.

Now onto hooking up the electronics and making my light rack. That will be the next update!
