Update time!

Got a box from mike@Sexy Corals the other day. A bunch of sweet acans, atom bomb, SC lady in pink and SC Blue steel acros. Needless to say I'm stoked haha

First pic is under mh and led. Then second pic is just led.

Don't we all wish we have a set up like this. If you say no then there is no real passion for this hobby but I know I would like to sit on my sofa with my friends and just enjoy the beauty of it all.

So due to us getting a new dryer I decided to relocate my rodi unit. I also added a 5th stage to it so now I run a predicted, 2x 1 micron carbon blocks(cloramine remover), membrane and di resin. Tds coming from the tap is about 89-90 so I get a full year or so out of my di resin.

Yaaaay updates!

I got a 72" Reefbrite XHO blue light for the 180. I replaced the t5s I had on the system and boy is this thing blue. I think once I make my canopy I will put the t5s on the opposite side to see how it looks and until I get another reefbrite.

Sorry about the crappy tank pic, quick cell pic and I forgot how hard it is to get a nice pic with blue leds on. Ugh, I'll have to figure out how to get a good pic with my dslr next.

So this update completely sucks....

Last week I noticed that I had a infestation of red bugs. They must have got in from my last order I got a few months ago and somehow snuck in after a good Bayer dip. So I tried to get my vet to give me a prescription for interceptor by explaining my situation. He told me no dice and that he could give me the pills but I need to bring my dog in for blood work to start, ugh. But I had a friend pull thru and gave me 3 23mg pills so I started dosing this past Sunday. You can't really overdose this stuff so used the full pill (1 large pill can treat roughly 400 gallon)and gave it a 5 hour run thru the system. I will dose 2 more times over the next 2 weeks but I will probably allow it to stay in the system for about 8-12 hours next time.

I was able to get my cleaner and fire shrimps out of the display, but my coral banded wasn't having it. After an hour of trying to catch him I said screw it and left him in for the treatment. Surprisingly he made it thru and is fine. I'll try to get him out again before the next dose but he can be a pain since he hides really well.

But the real sad news is that during the week it took me to locate the interceptor I lost my complete colony of red Dragon and my Mr. Pac man. My red Dragon was huge, roughly 12" across and a good 10" tall. I was pretty upset with that loss.

Bummer! How are things looking now?

Just did the 2nd round of interceptor today. A lot of my acros have burnt tips but I think that might have to do with unstable alk and along with red bugs. I adjusted my dosing pump accordingly and hope that a alk swing won't happen again.

This is def a rough patch for me but I think the tank will pull thru. I am leaving for a long weekend coming up so I am a little worried but nothing I can really do about that. I'll report back after my trip to Tennessee this weekend.

Update!

So I returned home from my vacation to find my UC Strawberry shortcake colony completely bleached along with a few others. All my monti's are toast except my beach bum but it looks like crap. Almost all my sps either have severely burnt tips or are STN'ing like crazy. I went from doing a 50 gallon water change to testing everything and all is well as far as that goes. So tonight I said to myself I'm draining my sump and cleaning it out completely thinking that maybe my daughter threw something in there that I couldn't see. I completely scrubbed it out and found nothing out of the ordinary. I removed the skimmer and pumps and gave them all a good scrubbing. The return pump and auxiliary pumps all clean and check out fine. I clean out the skimmer and I go to check the pump and what do I find, the screws and metal rings in the pump housing have completely rusted! I am almost positive this is the source of the problem. The skimmer is a coralvue 1000sss. I am still in disbelief that this skimmer would have this problem. Hopefully coralvue can chime in about this. But here are some pics.

So it seems like things are starting to settle a bit. After 150 gallons of water changes the last week and a half and about 1/4 gallon of carbon ran and changed nothing seems to be getting worse. Just about everything is brown but alive.

I recently changed my radiums after about 10 months on the last set. So I am in the process of light acclimating the corals so not to stress them anymore than they need to be. I moved as much of my corals I could over to my frag system a couple weeks ago and they seem to be revoering well. Im hoping in a couple months to be confident enough to move them back to the display. ill try to get pics later but it might pain me a little to take them to show the damage.
