Hey everyone, just posting for anyone searching in the future. These things are awesome (imo)
The vast majority of my current has always in the past, and will with this build come from circulation pumps, but I feel like if you can fit one of these into your return plumbing that you’re better off with it than without.
I know random flow generators are all the rage now, but (again, in my opinion) they look kinda stupid and they’re so long.
Personally I like these rotating dealio’s
If you have a Red Sea max nano like me (XXL) it should just push right into the factory outlet and any problems with algae getting caught up in them should be alleviated by keeping good water chemistry and the fact that the max nanos have a foam block before the return pump.
Posting for anyone trying to search for reviews on these in the future, 8/10 ️ for me.
1 deducted for decrease in flow (alleviated by circulation pumps)
And 1 deducted for the potential for things to get stuck in the gears (may be amended in the future, depending on hassle factor.

I’ve had one of these on a little 220gph canister filter outlet for about a decade now!

A great little product, and a beautifully simple design internally; it reminds me of some watch mechanisms!

My biggest complaints are:
— very restrictive! ~280gph max flow!
— needs a better plumbing attachment fitting
— moving parts do get critters in them

They are great for nano tanks or quarantine, and do offer a fantastic “gust of water” effect over nearby corals ever 10-ish seconds!

(I just got three 1/4” RFGs today to play around with and see how they compare! — already thinking of modifying one of these hydor spinners to eject from two 1/4” RFGs that rotate, instead of its own nozzle!
