I have what i believe are hydroids. They expend from the rocks and sway around. They are in random spots where coral lives on the rock. I’ve read these are bad and others say they cause no harm. Is there a consensus on these things?

I see them during the day but at night they do seem to get longer and more of them come out

Digitate Hydroids. I've never had any problems with them, but I have seen plenty of threads where other people were. They're really more of an irritant than anything else. If you don't have any corals nearby they pose no threat, but if they're taking up some prime real estate you might want to smother the hole with some epoxy.

They are known to irritate coral. If you have large outbreak and they will populate over time. My own personal rule is, if I didn't put it in there and known to cause issues bye bye. I take no chances coral are expensive. Quarantine is the way to go and when you see something odd research it if you can't find a 150% answer you paid nothing for it get it gone.
