Well this Homewrecker is no more, came home to it broken off laying on the pink monti, skin was melting on both. Chopped it up into a bunch of frags to save what I could and the monti has a huge bleach spot on it. My Vlamingi also has a nice cut on her side so I’m guessing how it got broken

I feel the pain my Hippo tang steady make frags for me. Unfortunately it’s always the corals I don’t want fragged.

Yeah, this is extremely painful for me. I have been working hard to color that Homewrecker and has been growing awesome, honestly really disappointing. I have other frags that are valued even more honestly so it's not really the cost just so happens to be one of my favorites. The odds of it being broken off and perfectly getting wedged in between the monti and the rock, I should buy a lottery ticket.

Massive alkalinity uptake since yesterday, I checked to make sure dosing heads are working. So far 15 additional ml added today and don’t know why. Honestly coral polyp extension looks amazing today.

Typically a great sign but always has me guessing too. Now that I have added kalkwasser dosing it really has me GUESSING as to what is really happening, When I was only two part, the correlation was tighter. But I won't give up what dosing kalk has brought me in terms of growth. I ignored pH for a decade but no more. If you have space for yet another large reactor, we should talk about it. Your windows are shut more often than mine are for 6-9 months.

I installed a whole home air heat exchanger. Average Low 8.03, average high 8.38 since installing it. I’m kind of afraid to mess with kalk even though I would love to keep it consistent

Hmmm. I should look into an exchanger. Yankee-land context could be different, not sure. My ambient indoor CO2 range is 385ppm to 795ppm and it makes a huge difference in pH if not otherwise managed. Some of that is outdoor quality (I get a prevailing air pattern from NYC and NJ) but also just how closed up the house is.

But your pH range is way better than mine. Before kalk, I was 7.85 to 8.15 and often worse. Check this out. When the wind changed and I could open the windows, I had to reduce the kalk dosing.

Here mine, I run 2 probes as I had an extra from my calc reactor, PH 1 was just calibrated a couple days ago-

Here is what I installed, was super easy

Have to teach me your ways on kalk, now that I'm upgrading to the 300 I would love a cheaper way than triton to maintain parameters

Maybe be a mix of the two

I posted a bunch of info here in a few places:

The most pertinent post was this:
I run both ESV 2-Part and Kalk stirrer. I used to run a CaRx as well. In fact that is the reason I picked up the Kalk stirrer to begin with as it was impossible to keep pH in my preferred (8.15 to 8.35) range. Once I broke my CaRx (don't ask) I just went back to 2-Part but kept the stirrer going.

I use APEX to push RODI into the Reef Octo 250 stirrer and gravity from there. APEX also for dosing 2-Part so it is super easy to adjust when needed. I pretty much leave the two-part dosing static and just dial up/down the kalk dose intervals to account for different ambient CO2 levels when the house is open/closed.

PROS:
a) Excellent pH management
b) Reduced my 2-Part consumption from 500ml ESV to 220ml

CONS:
Somewhat tedious to refill the stirrer with kalk powder every 2 weeks; even more tedious to flush it out every couple months.

I highly recommend a setup like mine for large systems whenever pH is otherwise difficult to keep.

I think I would credit your Air Exchange for keeping that pH in such a good range. If my house is open (or empty) my pH range is fine. Otherwise not. Funny, I run some Aprilaire units to ADD humidity (winter) while this unit removes humidity. And stale air. I like the idea though.
