I have a Hydros Kraken that I plan to add to my collective today. The collective is a Launch and an X3.

I am confused about the battery port. I have a whole home generator so I will not be using it at all. The instructions on the hydros website say if you're using certain types of batteries, you need to open the unit up & shut off charging by moving around some jumpers which I am totally capable of. This may be a dumb question, but if I am not using any battery at all, is it a good idea to shut off charging, or do nothing & and install the unit as is out of the box?

Thanks,
Ken

It sounds like you are only using the Kraken to eliminate power bricks? If that is the case then you don’t need to unhook anything on the inside of the kraken. The only time you would need to do that, is if you are using a LifePO4 type battery. Regular battery/deep cycle battery will be charged from the kraken.

Thank you so much! And yes, just replacing a mess of power bricks & wires. I figured that was the case, just wanted to be certain before I get it all mounted & hooked up to avoid having to go backwards. Thanks again for the quick reply!

If nothing is hooked up it will not charge. The reason is some types of batteries are not compatible with the built in charger. The jumpers will disable the on board charger if you choose to use an non compatible battery type. In which case you would need to use a separate charger that is compatible with the battery type in use. Also the controller will not know you are using the generator so it will not go into low power mode since the power drop from 24v to 12v is what triggers that mode and if you use a generator that voltage would stay at 24v. Not sure it would matter though.
