Good morning,

I have switched over to Hydros from apex and trying to figure out a few things with the Hydros universe. Can I use two heaters on different XP8 sockets using one temp sensor? I can’t find the setting. Thank you!

I'm not familiar with the Hydros controller but with the problems I've seen with Apex and with equipment failing in general resulting in loss of livestock I'd vote for redundancy and have critical equipment running seperately from any controller. So to answer your question I'd have one heater controlled by your Hydros and another heater on it's own dedicated thermostat (not it's internal one if it has one).

Yes, you can use the same input to control multiple outputs. Here are my two heater outputs. I also set the thermostats on the heaters 3 degrees higher than the settings on the Hydros as a backup.

Thanks N2,

When I try to select the sense port for the second heater on the XP8 , it isn’t there. Obviously I’m doing something wrong. I’ll keep at it and if I still can’t get it, I’ll ask you to walk me through it at a kindergarten level.

Did you get it setup?

Thanks for checking in N2. No, still researching. Wondering if I installed the hydros incorrectly. On status page, I can select the XP4 or the XP8. It’s a collective, so shouldn’t be an issue there.

But when I go to XP8 and select either heater, I can’t select the Input temp sensor on either temp 1 or temp 2. Temp 1 nothing shows up and temp 2 just shows “unused”.

I just set finished adding everything to the hydros and now need to configure with schedules etc. I have used Apex exclusively, so just needing to learn this new system. So far, I love the hydros.

It does not sound like you have a collective created in the app. You select one of the controllers then create the collective and then add the other controller to the collective. Here is a status page at the top of my collective with 9 controllers in it. The second screenshot is of the left menu as you can see there are no controllers there to select and only the collective. Once the controller is a part of a collective it will not show in the menu as a selection.

Also I forgot to mention that only the controller you are accessing when you create the collective will retain it's setup for any inputs and outputs. Then any controller added to the collective will have any settings erased.

Thank-you N2! That corrected everything! I actually deleted the devices completely and started from scratch. I configured the XP8 first and then made a new collective adding the X4. Temp sensor populated both heaters. It’s all coming together now:)

I owe you a beer!
