Hygger 3400 wavemaker

Has anyone used this wavemaker yet. The design seems good. More options on the controller

This is the only video i can find. Might be a good jebao alternative. Right now they are around $75 on amazon.

Had zero issues with them TBH...

I did have one return pump go out, but I also had failures from "branded" pumps as well.

Well, i added this to my tank. Im running it at level 3 of 20, and it is way stronger than the 2600 gph hygger at full power. To me it compares to an mp40 with less tech.

I just bought two of these to replace my Current eFlux 2100gph 3 pump setup.. the currents keep dying and I am tired of dealing with them. Customer support has been good but I have had to buy a total of six of them to have three working ones in the space of two years. At any rate.. these Hyggers look pretty sweet... and love the compact form factor and wifi-sync with reverse mode and night mode..

I'll chime in with my thoughts this weekend.

I still like the 3400 gph. More narrow flow pattern than the smaller models. The high vs low in the wavemaking isnt that varied imo. But, it moves flow over 30 inches well.

So I got two of these installed in my 5 foot by 18x22 tank yesterday.. I tried a lot of locations for the pumps but settled on one at each end on the top of the tank near the front wall.. I spent a bunch of time on this and it freaked my sailfin and foxface out a lot... they really stressed for a while...

I tried M3 which is tandem master slave wave maker mode where the master pulses wakemaker mode forward then it switches to the slave in wave forward (master spins backwards I think)... I wanted this to work but it just simulated a storm in my tank even at the lowest flow rate (1 out of 20). When the one spins backwards it still pushes a lot of water and I never got that nice back and forth swoosh I got with the current pumps.

So I settled on mode 6 (m6) which is just constant on for master (slave off) and then it switches to slave on constant with master off. This is at flow rate 1 (out of 20).. These things push some serious water.. and are dead quiet. I have them on a 5min timer in each direction..

I wish there was a mode where master does classic wave maker for a set time with slave off, then salve on classic wave with master off. Like M6 but with classic wave pattern.

I am not 100% happy with the outcome but the flow in my tank is good.. I really miss the swoosh back and forth the Current Eflux gave me but those pumps are so unreliable after about 6 mos. I might just buckle and get evotech MP10s or MP40s (if I can get the 40s to push very low flow if I want that)..

For the price these Hyggers are nice so far but their "wave maker" mode doesn't give the nice steady back and forth sway motion... Just seems to stir the water up a lot - very turbulent. Nice for simulating a storm for cleaning up detritus pockets but I don't want that on all the time. The impellars don't stop ever with wave maker... I bet that helps the life of the pumps but it doesn't give me that nice swoosh back and forth I was after. But again for 78 bucks a side pretty nice pumps if they last. They have a 1yr warranty.

You need to run the frequency as high as possible. 99ish to get a wavemaker variance.

Indeed! and thanks. I found that was the best way to get it somewhat how the current pumps created "wave" flow.. but it still wasn't the same - and with them both on it was too turbulent even at flow rate 1 ... Imma going to try again next weekend playing around with the modes.. right now the flow is great I just don't have the nice swoosh back and forth over my large clove colony the way it was... I am thinking about adding one of my two good current pumps into the mix to get that kind of flow.. dial the flow back on it a lot. Gonna leave the tank alone though until the weekend - I don't want to send my sailfin into a tailspin again.. :o

What coral are you planning to keep? They should provide good flow for your 120. I would just say they are somewhat narrow and maje sure the frequency is at 90 or higher for the longest time between waves. You should be able to sync the two and get flow throughout.

A mixed reef at some point but just playing for now. I have some MP60s for my 350 but I'm a long way from getting that going.

These things do nothing in a 120 at max volume and a basic on off setting. Disappointing for sure. $160 wasted.

Yeah been using these and they're ok but not great.. getting the job done but the wavemaker mode is disappointing but as they've broken in the flow seems better from them.. def going MP40 on my next tank..

I have had the Hygger Mini for over a year! I’ve never programmed it and frankly don’t know how lol but it’s compact and works! I do think the design can be improved and it’s hard to put the cover back on and match up the little pegs after cleaning.

I have had these for a while.. at first they were too powerful (typhoon simulation) but after time they have mellowed out a lot and I found a flow combo that works for my tank.. they're not great, but they get the job done.. The modes are very strange.. the "wave" mode sort of works.. for the price though they seem to be sturdy and run reliably..

I am moving over to ecotech after this... with all of the money I have poured into pumps I could have had two MP40s with wet side replacements on maintenance days by now.

I have two of these pumps on my 75 gal reef. Very good I’ve never owned anything expensive like a Vortech so I can’t compare, but they work great for strong water movement across the front and back of my tank. Start at flow setting 1 and work way up over a few weeks unless you have a much larger tank. I use the random flow pattern and it creates great surface agitation and will blow my sand everywhere if not placed correctly. I highly recommend this DC pump for the price. Been running it about 8 months now.
