Thanks, once everything is dialed in , it’s pretty easy to maintain. I also started dosing tropic Marin All for reef on May 15 th and absolutely love it . I have that on a doser and my ALK of 8.4 is rock solid . That removes ALK,CA, MG and trace dosing. Super easy

I have that stuff, just not too excited to use it. But I could for sure. It’s hard to dial in, and right now with all that’s happening, I am not home consistently to keep an eye on it, and husband is more clueless about that, than I am. I’d smoke his brain, trying to teach him how to check parameters lol. That or the tank

Lolol fair enough! But down the road if you get a single doser it’s actually easy to dial in. Manual dosing would be tough. I dose 7 ml 8x per day. And my KH stays at 8.4 and CA 430. One other thing I run my MG at 1500 . Prevents some hair algae and all my LPS love it.

This is a pricey hobby BUT I look at other things people do. Like guys that crash a 16K RC plane!!!. That’s how I justify it in my mind

Saltyfins, I am going to give you my opinion but you are not going to like it and neither is anyone else. All of these things we experience in this hobby, especially a new tank like yours is natural, normal and expected and they come and go in cycles. Some cycles last a few weeks and some a year or more but they all go away.

The stuff you have growing, whatever it is, is not going to effect the health of anything except yourself. That is unless you start to add chemicals that are not natural and everything man made that comes in a container is not natural.

I have spent almost 400 hours under water and have seen everything growing in the sea that we see in our tanks. My tank is 55 years old and I have way more algae and cyano than you do. Do you know what I do? Maybe have a glass of Pino Noir and go out to dinner.

I also never test because then I would tweek and the tanks with the most tweeking have the most problems and tank crashes.

So my advice is to do nothing. You can suck out whatever comes out easily if you like but I would not add any chemicals. It will straighten out. All you need in there is seawater. Give it a chance to straighten out by itself, maybe limit feeding and be sure to rinse the food which I hope is frozen food and not dry foods.

Here are some shots in my tank, notice the algae? Everything is healthy, nothing has ever died from a communicable disease in 45 years, most fish are spawning even the 35 year olds and I have had so much algae that I could open a produce stand.

I beat algae and any other nasty stuff with bacteria. I dose heavily and a variety. I set up a 235g in Jan and it got some stuff that sort of looked like Dino’s but also like algae. I dosed PNS bio and PNS deep cycle, seachem pristine, seachem stability and Aqua forest life source which is live mud from the ocean. It supplies bio diversity. The problem disappeared in about 7-10 days . Make sure your nitrate and phosphate don’t go to 0

This is an effective natural way to attack this problem naturally while boosting biodiversity.

Just be careful with the MB clean ..I had three bleaching events when I used it. I use seachem pristine instead which I found works really well and never had any adverse effects . Time between glass cleaning increases and my sand looks really clean too.
I like the life source too but it can accumulate in sump .. for my 236 G I use only about 3 scoops.

I like to just use a toothbrush during weekly water changes to suck it out, this way if you get enough out, other stuff Will grow on the spots that you manually brush over time, so the algae cant grow combined with some snails to keep it down but it takes patience. Im 1-2 months in doing this and i am finaly winning but i did this combo on my other tank and it worked perfectly even with higher nutrients level ( i have 15 nitrate 0.17 phosphate in the order tank)
