So I needed some brackets fabricated for a light mounting rack I am building out of 1515 T-slot. I found a free .stl file for the part I needed online and found buildplateco.com with a Google search and decided to give them a try. They supposedly do custom 3D printing and had a professional looking website. Here is what happened:
- I placed the order on 10/18; the website indicated there would be a 2 day lead time. The .stl file was accepted and the order went through just fine. I ordered 16 of these little brackets. The confirmation email I received contained a link to check the status of my order. My order was order #83, suggesting they have not been in business very long.
- On 10/22 the website indicated that the order was still in queue; I emailed the vendor to inquire about the delay (there is no phone number on the website, the only way to contact them is via email).
- Email reply received on 10/23, stating that my order would be fabricated that day and I would receive it on 10/26 or 10/27.
- On 10/26 I received an automated email stating that production had started and that I would receive tracking information when the order has shipped. Since then the website has stated that fabrication has been completed and the order is ready to ship, but has not shipped. I have not received a shipping notification or tracking number.
- On 10/30 I sent an email inquiring about the status of the order, but did not receive a reply. Note that the vendor's website states that they will reply to inquiries within one business day.
- This week I sent emails every day (4 days in a row) inquiring about the order, but have not received a reply.
- In yesterday's email to vendor I stated that if I do not receive a reply and the order is not shipped within 24 hours I will file a dispute with my credit card company. 24 hours came and went without a reply, and the website still indicates that the order is ready to ship but has not shipped yet.
- I filed a dispute with my credit card company today. We'll see what happens next, but based on my experience I would advise against using this company for 3D printing.
