I pulled my Chaeto algae for the first time this morning as I’m doing my 3month maintenance to my back compartment I started off with a tennis ball size from algae barn and added 5280 pods directly to it i could not believe how huge this Chaeto got and how many living things were living in it micro brittle stars, small bristle worms, colonista snails, and amphipods
How often do you trim your cheato? Do you attempt to save all the lil critters from the clippings?

About half of my 75g sump is refugium, I trim every week or so. I used to not save anything that came with the chaeto as most of the stuff I trimmed went to the LFS or other local hobbyists, but now if I'm going to toss some I take it and shake it out in the DT - the wrasses go nuts for all the copepods and amphipods that come out.

I just restarted my fuge, so I’m not sure it will be the same, but when I had it running I would remove enough to fill a gallon zip lock every 3-4 weeks, and atleast half would still be left.

I did try and save as many beneficial critters as possible.

Wow I never even thought of basically recycling the cheato and give it to someone else or LFS great idea

I just cut mine down to about half pulled as many critters I don’t believe any of the brittle stars survived :(
