I have a question about dosing Cipro

So I want to check my math on this, so if I am aiming for 16 mg, and I have 750 mg total in 75 ml of water, that would be (16/750)x75 to find out how many ml I need to add? I got 1.6 with this, is this correct?
Ok...this really isn't that difficult. I'll try and explain again as clear as I can.

Take ONE (500mg) cipro tablet. Crush it into a fine powder. Add 50ml or RO/DI water to that and mix until well dissolved. THIS IS YOUR CIPRO SOLUTION.

To find the correct dosage for your tank. (33 gallons= 125 liters.)
so: 125L x .125 = 15.6ml (round up to 16ml)

So 16ml is your DOSE per treatment.

Day one: 16ml dose at lights out and the next 16ml dose at lights up.
Day two: repeat
Day three: repeat.
day 4 repeat
day 5 repeat
day 6 repeat
day 7 repeat. (if things looking good, you can stop)

I’ve tried to save a whole tank doing cipro and yes sometimes it works and sometimes brown jelly comes back!
At this point have to instantly dip any effected coral.

I would do dips but the problem is is that most of the corals that have it are Kenya trees, and those are stuck to the rock so I can’t get the off

Ok so corals seem to be doing better, now to be fair, it may just be me thinking they look better. But, the only corals that showed BJD were Kenya trees, and I was mostly worried about my hammers and meat corals on the sandbed

you will see visible differences quickly. I did fail to mention, your first tank dose could have even been a bit stronger than the 16ml dose. I'd say you could have safely dosed 20ml as your first dose. I've sometimes dosed double the recommended dose on my first dosage to get a good amount introduced into the system. I know many others that have done the same with no ILL affects.

Any idea where this dosing schedule came from? The Cipro in tank concentration may be rising every day, if the originating person made the same mistake that Orion and the anemone folks made in assuming it was degrading.

I don’t think it will be degrading as I have no sunlight or uv light coming into the tank. The only lights hitting it are the regular leds and room lighting, which I think are also leds

I was wondering about the increasing value over time but I was thinking that the medicine would be used in killing the bacteria, so thats why you need to add more. Am I wrong in this sense?

what type of light do you have over your tank? If you have ANY lights that promote coral growth, algae growth, etc, it'll render Cipro ineffective as well. Doesn't matter if they are LED, T5, metal halide, Compact Florescent, etc.

I have the lights that come with the Red Sea nano xl tank, I believe they are REEFLED50

I expect that is not a substantial sink.

Thank you for posting this. Was just about to. It shows in fact a study that Cipro does degrade relatively quickly under broad spectrum light.

No one is denying that sunlight degrades it. But studies show that visible light does not. Reef lights do not product the wavelengths needed.
