I never knew that Clownfish could jump

This weekend when I was doing some maintenance on my nano, and when I put my hand in the tank to scrub the corners (I have bend corners and this is the best way of cleaning) I heard a small splash and saw one of my Clowns flying towards the floor. Luckily I had all my maintenance tools standby and it was within 20 seconds back in the water.

I have had Clownfish for 8 years in total and I have never seen this. Is this a one of or does this happen more often? I'm getting a net on my new tank anyway.

I had a mated pair of perculas the female jumped out 3 times before I got my screen cover on luckily my dog alerted me all 3 times and she still survives unfortunately the male jumped out at night and I lost him. Like you I had another pair for several years with no top and they never jumped so to be safe you may want to put on a top and luckily you were right there to save it.

Had a member post last year that his clown jumped up and bit him on the eyeball while he was bent over the tank doing maintenance. Yikes! Wear goggles while fish keeping LOL.

Mine only jumps to get a bite at my hand when it’s near the surface. He’s a real jerk.

Mine can attack my hands too. Especially when i'm too close to their anemone. They even attacked a coral last weekend when I accidentally moved it too close to their anemone.

Sounds like we have the same situation. Mine nose-dives into my scoly for no apparent reason.

I heard it is a natural clownfish instinct to swim upward when it feels threatened. I have seen them jump a few times and many will bob their heads out of water when cleaning tanks to act all macho.
