A few people asked me in conversations recently where I was and how I was doing. I am okay. The past four months have been a real challenge and I have taken a few breaks from posting along the way. Nothing bad health-wise, just some life issues to figure out. They seem a bit petty sometimes compared to what I read some of my friends here go through, but they are mine. I still love R2R and miss everyone, but I am not going to be posting much if my head is not straight. I always check my conversations regularly though if needed.

That said, here are a few notes on the tank.

1. Had some nasties pop up recently including bubble algae as I had mentioned and then some major hair algae out of nowhere. I stopped feeding LRS Reef Frenzy for two weeks and the bubble algae stopped spreading almost immediately. This weekend, the hair algae suddenly all but disappeared. Then, of course, some Cyanobacteria popped up. Always something.

2. Alkalinity is holding at 7 dKH, but Calcium had skyrocketed to 537 ppm. I was adding 2 part, but stopped the Calcium part completely. The Alkalinity keeps dropping and my coralline is turning white. I upped the doser yet again from 48 ml to 54 ml. That is 2 dKH added each day spread over 12 doses. Something is just not right to me. I see it dosing into the tank and it is still not keeping up. The level seems very high for my small 35 gallon system.

3. The anemone is finally large enough to sting the corals at the bottom of the tank. I had to move my Caulastrea rock and will need to reaquascape the right side yet again.

4. SPS are still growing and encrusting like crazy. Throughout all the minor issues I have had, these corals are still loving life. Seems the Alkalinity may not be the issue I think it is. It is my first try at SPS, so maybe I am just learning.

No pictures of the rest of the LPS or fish in this post, but they all seem to be doing quite well. The tank is overall looking great since the big cleaning I recently did. Hopefully everything continues chugging along and growing, but not too fast!

I still say its corraline that's eating ur Alk up...

The growth pics of ur sps is astonishing! They are definitely playing a role in your diminishing dkh results as well.

BTW, I was busy tonight. No, not at work, on R2R. I started a thread to answer some of the questions I see asked all of the time. Rather than repeat myself over and over again, I decided to make a list of R2R Tips and Tricks I could link to people to help them out. Check it out.

Looks okay. The bubble is just about completely gone. I am getting some Cyanobacteria and hair algae, but that will take care of itself. I just need to get my hands a little dirty this weekend in a few spots. The city flushed the pipes last weekend and browned the water. I skipped making RO/DI and missed a scheduled water change and cleaning.

Not too worried. I just like sharing a few #HonestyInReefing pictures. The broad mix of critters in our tank are thriving and that is what matters.

If you are interested. I did this for getting the gha out of my DT. It has been working on some macro algae too.

I remember reading this at the time. Thanks for reminding me. I think I may try a few spots for fun to see if it helps contain it. I have used boiling RO/DI to kill Aiptasia in the past as well. Works great if you are careful or can remove the rock to a bucket.
