I was going to ask what are you doing to control phosphate levels, but then I referred to your contents on page 1 and it’s looks like one of the compartments will have phosphate remover in. What did you use or going to use if not in already?

That content page is a brilliant idea, my build thread is below! Lol

The best thing I did with my system was to keep phosphate locked down at around 0.03ppm (I use Rhowaphos/Nopox) and even though I run nitrates at 12-16ppm I have zero algae anywhere. If it wasn’t for me feeding them the Tangs would hate me !

Thanks for you thoughts. I used a bag of a Fluval Phosphate remover I had left over from my freshwater days. It did not seem to do much. I recently tried a Lanthanum Chloride solution. 7 drops will drop my PO4 0.10 ppm. I have done that three times over the past two weeks. I had not mentioned it yet, but it works perfectly. I am doing it very slowly as I do not love the idea, but I wanted to get Phosphate down without adding equipment or difficulty. I may consider something like Rhowaphos / Nopox if PO4 starts rising from here, but probably not if I can get it down and it stays down (and it has stayed down).

Recently, I have considered adding NO3 as well, but will not do that unless it reaches 0ppm on its own. I have pure Potassium nitrate (KNO3) also from my freshwater days. I feel the PO4 cannot be used by corals or Chaeto if they are NO3 limited. I do not love this idea either, so again, I am taking it very slowly.

I would add, this is early in the build, so I do not want to start adding lots of chemicals until the system tells me more about itself. The PO4 though was high enough (around 0.7ppm) for me to try something to lower it.

It will take patience, that's for sure.

Best not to ask me lol, I had my nitrates and phosphates tested Sunday just, done by my trusted lfs.
Nitrates 25, after the power outage they hit 100!
I laugh in the face of your puny .7 phosphates, I am a proper 1!
My skimmer has not been skimming for about 8 weeks, now cleaned and skimming.
Take it slowly!

Seriously, though, stability right now is more important to me than an exact number. Unless I start seeing nuisance algae I am fine to continue bringing it down very slowly.

Ugh.. I was almost hoping no one would get the reference! Your sense of humor must be as poor as mine!

I do agree with you. Slow and steady on the way down.

Great film / movie, if my test kit is still in date I will test it again this weekend, I don't mind . something numbers, if it is still there I will add a gentle phos media in a bag.

Just for fun I ran the 3 moonlight LEDs (420nm) at 2% for an hour tonight to selfishly enjoy the tank. I love the glow of the Chaeto LEDs behind the tank too. The Caulastrea really fluoresced (these are all crappy iPhone 7s images with Photoshop enhancement).

Lanthanum Chloride, Agent Green. works everything to get my phosphates down;) and the GFO reactor pretty much keep my phosphates in line.

I always forget to hit the "like" button when I run across posts that I like.

I like this whole thread!

@NY_Caveman you have Waaaaaaaay more patience than me. maybe it's because you are upstate NY and i'm from the Bronx NY. What you went through with the tanks being cracked, scratched and whatnot would have had me LIVID!!!

Your build is coming along beautifully.

Thanks for checking out my humble build thread.

I think i'm going to start the actual build this weekend. (I hope)
