Looks nice! Question....the black portion with the rock in it in the skimmer section....does that come with or is that a DIY add-on?? I am setting up a 255g here real soon and am shopping for a sump but probably need the bigger size.

Thanks, I got the black acrylic box made. The reason why I added this box is I don't think sponges do well in sumps. To much detritus, air bubbles, and it becomes a challenge when I want to drain the sump since sponges can die if exposed to air. Im in a apartment so when I move i wanted this area to be easily removable without draining the entire thing.

Left picture is what the sponge looks like now, the right is what it looked like when I added it

You need a bigger sump then the 48XL? That things would be perfect size for a 225gallon system. I plan on using my filter for up to a 300gallon system. I can always relocate the black box since the inlet and outlet are on the top by design.

Nope... I meant that of the sizes mentioned in this post I would need the larger size which is the 48xl.... this sump is probably the best bang for your buck size wise IMO without going custom...however I am going to modify the chamber for the ATO and incorporate it into additional filtration space since I will use a larger external ATO tank .

Nice, in the future when I upgrade tanks I may convert the ATO to a refugium. The downside with the current system is you can't see the refugium and light spill into the protein skimmer compartment. The ATO area would add 10Gallons of water volume and could be lit using Led strip lighting along the viewing side panel.

I agree with that as well....Thinking about what I can do for a modification there....I'm torn on just going with it as is, (minus opening the ATO chamber) but I am starting to think that it may be more work than needed for it to be functional. I'm almost ready to just say heck with it and place my current 135g underneath and convert it into a nice large sump with room to grow!! We'll see.

When I move I will run everything to the basement and have a large frag tank attached to the sump. I like the concept of customeraquariums seamless sump all we need is something large and that can handle many gallons worth of backflow, large, maintenance free, and leak proof. When space is no longer a restriction I'd probably contact a company such as this and ask for price. Im sure a open tank would be a fraction of the price of a sump build for aquariums

I’m looking at buying this series of sump, I’ve looked online but, can’t tell. Do you think the ATO res compartment could be drilled to be part of the fuge? I have a 150 gallon RO storage that my top off comes out of and thought about trying to utilize that compartment for extra fuge space.

I have had the 48XL for about a month now on my 400. Only thing I don’t like is the top off reservoir. I don’t use it, so I just plan on just using it as an additional QT area for Corals. It fits a reef octopus regal 300 SSS INT with ease. I use external UV so I have a Vectra L1 in the compartment with my skimmer and have had no issues.

I just got this sump for my 300Gl system. I am already topping off from my mixing station fresh water tank. I do not have a use for the ATO. I was planning to drill 2-3 large holes (2inch) in the divider wall between the return pump and freshwater reservoir.
I could then plumb my external pump in the side corresponding to the freshwater reservoir. Do you see any downside to doing this?? I am afraid not to mess up the water flow dynamic. Theoretically, I could plug those holes later on with bulkheads and caps.
...Any thoughts.
Thank you

Make sure you get the proper drill bit for acrylic. I completely destroyed my sump when drilling a hole.

Ah.., I am sorry to hear. What bit did you use? I've drilled dozens of acryl, plexiglass with a hole saw drill bit, but I can use a glass bit and take it slow, no rush. I have to drill anyway to connect my external pump
