My sodium level has been low in two sequential ICP tests now but my salinity is testing about 1.025/6. Is this something to be concerned about?

I've checked my salinity with two different devises - both a BRS refractometor and milwakee digital refractometor both of which confirm 1.025. I've also confirmed calibration of both devises with reference solution. Hmmmm

One or both of the measurements (icp and refractometers) must be inaccurate. There no special way they can both be correct.

But they may not be off by more than the margin of error. Sg = 1.024 might fit the icp

Okay, thank you. I'll double check the calibration and send in an ATI test for comparison.

Hmm, after just recalibrating both devises I'm now reading 1.023 on the ATC and 1.025 on Milwaukee. Sounds like the ICP NA result may be right with salinity of 1.023. Maybe I need a 3rd refractometor to triple check

From reading many R2R ICP results, one of the biggest insights is that salinity is not what people expected.

BRS sells 3 different brands of calibration fluid and for some it's easy to make their own. After getting burnt, I calibrate before every test. I'm a big believer in 'bad data is worse than no data'

Umm, durrr. I do have a third prob with my apex. That also went out of calibration apparently since it was reading 35 ppt prior. After recalibrating it this morning the reading now aligns with the BRS refractometor and likely ICP results. Yay
