ID growth on Red Cap

I have a pretty good size Red Cap growing. It has developed a little funky growth. Can anyone ID it and tell me how to get rid of it. It is only on this and no where else in the tank. Thanks for helping.

Sorry, I can't make much out on the picture you provided. Maybe if you could get a better shot someone might be able to help.
 
id say an alk spike killed the edges and allowed hair algae to grow. break off all the algae covered edges and it will regrow faster
 
Thanks gang. I did just have an Alk spike. Still trying to get it down. I have done one 20% water change and will be doing another tomorrow. Still trying to understand what caused the spike.
