ID please...

Im posting this here and in softies, cause I just don't know. Its bigger than a soft ball by about half, and comes from the north end of the Florida Gulf barrier islands (clearwater, caladesi, honeymoon island area). Someone let me know what this is please.

It is not a sponge, just so you know, it is hard yet slick, and the pores have a clear bottom, whereas a sponge is fully porous. It is definitely alive as the pores expand slightly.
