Can someone help ID this stuff growing on my live rock? Started cleaning up my DT (nitrates WAY too high). Got them down to reasonable levels and this started growing on my rocks. I also started dosing Vodka at that same time.
Thanks in advance for your help. It's about 1/8 to 1/4 inches tall.

We need to look into bryozoans as well, not for sure but the morphology isn't far off. bryos would be obligate hitchhikers associated with recent inputs moreso than brought on by something

have you stocked anything new lately

Just a new clean-up crew. This started growing before I added the crew.

Try to google images aquarium bryozoans rather than just bryos in general just brainstorming

See if the details in goog images matches what yours looks like in person

Pics in all white no actinic lighting would help as well

I wouldn't be me if I didn't want a peroxide test here

I think it can work

If it doesn't, its the first newly resistant organism seen in five years, ergo we think it can work :)

Take only one test rock lift out

Dump peroxide from a new bottle on bad areas let sit in air 3 mins put back in tank

Uber please post update pics this has a strong chance of working. Those really could be bryozoans and I don't recall a peroxide test of them, fingers crossed excellent pics

Ah, thats bonded bacteria created by the dosing, is its stringy and slimy when you try to remove it, then its that, if its not, then disreguard.

So any residual peroxide on the rock wouldn't hurt anything in the DT? It's pretty porous rock. I have not researched peroxide is why I'm asking.

And thanks for the compliment on the pics. From my IPhone 6.

the only thing it could hurt would be a lysmata cleaner shrimp in that dilution. rinse well is ok, it'll import almost none. if those are not primary producer plants but complexes of bacteria I think that is possible and interesting to see how a test rock will react. i havent seen a full tank shot but it looks to be in the beginning stages and not alot of corals.

No coral in this 55 gal DT. Just a 5" yellow tang and a clown fish.

Can't see much in the full tank shot.
