I bought a second of these black box lights but the new one has a differently shaped mount, so I want to make my own. I got a lot of good ideas for the fixture from previous posts, but I'm not sure of the best way to hang these lights from the support. The tops are some kind of metal and I've already tried and failed to find long enough screws that fit those drill holes. Any ideas?

Those are similar to an AI HYDRA 26. Check out the DIY hydra mount using a tv mount. I did this before going to a hybrid system and it worked great!

Have you looked at extruded aluminum? They have all kinds of attachment options. Here is what I built with stuff I bought from 8020.net

The problem with those mounting holes is you can't get into a T-nut in a T-slot from that angle. Getting a mounting plate made (or some with some flat metal stock) is an option. Or set the light on top of aluminum T-slot.

Could just drill small holes in the heat sync at all four corners and ceiling mount them

I'm sure there are other ways of using the heat sync for mounting. . .

Could also make a "tray" out of angled aluminum like I did:

Thank you for the links, I missed this tray one when I was searching for ideas!

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
