Hey everyone, so I just set up my new 100 ext and I’m having some issues. This is my first sump tank and I’m very confused on water levels. My wife is about to go nuts with the dripping sound where the water enters the sump from the overflow. I have no idea if I should have the return pump set on the highest setting or where exactly the level should be in the overflow box itself. Pretty confused and ready to put this thing to the street. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not there to see what you are seeing, but generally speaking, the longer distance the water falls down over the weir the louder it will sound, obviously. So can you make an adjustment so the water level is raised?

And not to be funny, but has you wife given it enough time to be used to the sound of a tank in the room? The day you buy a new house next to a drive-thru restaurant you hear every, "Would you like that supersized?" After a few months you don't even realize it's next door. Lol.

adjust the gate valve to make sure air isnt going down into the sump.

You should be able to adjust it to be silent. This will likely take some fine tuning between your return pump and the valve coming into your sock chamber from the overflow. As mentioned above, you want the water in overflow low enough it’s flowing over the weir and acting as a surface skimmer, but not so low it’s noisy. I find if I turn my return pump up too high it can also make a bit of noise, but can mostly eliminate it with the gate valve after the overflow. When tuned correctly it should be virtually silent no gurgling or fast water flowing noise. If you hear a dripping noise specifically, in the sock chamber, you could try adding a layer of filter floss on top of the socks to dampen the noise, depending on your layout. I tend to make very small changes and wait several hours before adjusting it again. That way you can pinpoint what each tweak does and it gives time for the flow to balance out.

The only sound I generally hear from my tank is when the fans for the lights turn on, my ATO or dosing pumps kick on and they are all barely noticeable, with the light fan being the loudest by far.
