Time for less talk, more action! lol. 😜

You can do it. We're all in your corner. 👍🏻
I’m trying but too many distractions… 😆

Ok, It’s that time of the year where I was excited and looking forward to delivery truck/van. So today was that day.

Wanted to try something different for LED and been reading a lot, even did a thread to see what others thought and help me narrow my search. In the end decided to go with this light. Might cook some corals from what I read, we shall see.

POTO order… I read so many great things about them but this was the first time ordering from them. Literally put them in the tank and they started to open up and expand the polyps.

All in the rack.

Been thinking about running bare bottom on this tank. Now let’s setup and cycle the IM Nuvo 25 lagoon.

Some good news some not that great!

The Good
  • Moved the Nuvo 20 out of the way! I will be using some equipment on the new tank, but the end goal is to sell this tank/stand. (ATO and reservoir, DJ switch, return pump & VCA random flow generator, & UV lamp are all transferring over)
IMG_6840.JPEG
  • Assembled the coffee bar for the wife. She's happy!
IMG_6916.JPEG

The not so great
  • After cleaning out the tank some seams appears as if the previous owner got too close with a razor 😢. While the tank doesn't leak, I didn't feel comfortable with it inside the house. Initially I considered reseal but ended up getting a new starter kit for the glass.
  • Then came the decision of placement. There were two spots that I had in mind. One by the sliding glass and while I liked it the second made more sense.

Moved the Nuvo 20 while I get rid of the Toadstools. If someone local to Orlando is interested in large Toadstool let me know 😄. I need to break off these rocks so I can use some pieces to seed the new tank.
IMG_6847.JPEG

Decided this spot made the most sense out of the two locations for placement. Wife asked if I could keep the "fish things" off the floor 😂. Have some plywood in the garage to make some sort of controller board and also clean the electronic cabinet next to them are now on my to do list.

Plan for this weekend finish the rock work/glue it and level/fill the tank with RO.

Started to think about stocking for this tank.

I will need to research a lot more as this could become a fight club style tank. The idea will be to have color, movement, and provide a reef environment where they can all coexist.

  • Yellow cardinal blenny * 1 - semi aggressive (venom fang)

  • Azure damsel * 2 - semi aggressive (one of the most peaceful of the damsel, if that’s a thing)

  • Flame Hawkfish *1 - semi aggressive

Let me know what you think, especially if you have experience with any of these fish.
Looking to add a flame hawkfish for my 25 lagoon too! Let me know if anyone has experience with them and if they'll go after my inverts like herits & shrimps!

I have found them to be great fish, no issues with inverts. They are not big swimmers though.

@PR_nano @higher99 , I just happened to make this comment in another post regarding a question about a Flame Hawk or Longnose Hawk in a 22-gallon. Hope this helps:

Based on the swim patterns of the Flame Hawk and Longnose Hawk, I would definitely rule out the Longnose, and say that the Flame is very "iffy" for that size tank, unless the tank had exceptionally minimal other inhabitants. (I have a Longnose in my 150-gallon now, and a Flame in a 15-gallon quarantine tank, getting ready for the 150. Conceivable the Flame could 'hop and perch around' a 22-gallon tank, but as someone else suggested, a 40-gallon would be more appropriate.)

I’m still not sure on the stocking for the tank. One thing I would like to do is have a yellow, red, blue fish.

Pretty sure on the Canary for the yellow fish.

Red not sure about the Red Hawk fish, maybe the Geometric Pygmy hawk. I remember wanting one for my 20, barely see them now. A Pink Streak Wrasse (I have one in my other tank and wouldn’t mind getting another for this tank), a Red-Fin goby I like these and my previous one jump. A scooter blenny needs a mature tank for sustainable pod population.

Blue still not sure either on the damsel, been reading and starki, springer, & azure are the most peaceful if that’s a thing for damsel. I like the last two better and stay smaller than the starki. A Blue mandarin but will need to wait a long time for pods and will impact which red fish I go too. Another Blue fish I like but not likely to work in this tank is the Cherub. An Assessor Basslet is another possibility. I like Blue pipefish but planning on decent flow and also impact by the pods population.
Decisions…

Following. My IM 25 lagoon arrives today . By the way I hope you’re liking the ReeFi. I had the 2.0 version and I loved it.

Looking forward to check your build. Did you had the ReeFi in the Nuvo 30? If so how high and which reflector?

When I reached out to Daniel he suggested if I used the 90 pre-installed to mount it 12” above the water or 7” if using the 120. I have a par meter so I can test and adjust as necessary but wanted to get some feedback from others that have use this light.

Here's some color-- a Fang Blenny. Mine was pretty chill.

Looked even better in person, under the lights.

This is a beauty. I really like the contrast of blue/yellow. Now to decide between the two blennys.

So back to the tank… tank is now filled with RODI. A booster pump maybe in my future pressure was under 60. I believe the manufacture recommended 65 and above.

Surprised the display took 15 gallons and it started to drain thru the nozzle into the back chamber. The back chamber adds about 2-3 more gallons. This was left of what would have been the 20 gallons. I only have rocks no sand and the back chamber is empty with the exception of the return and 1 sock.

Main things that will be tackled today

Mix Tropic Marine salt in tank
Mount Reefi led light
Measure PAR
Setup MP10

I’m still undecided on sand, not used to seeing the bottom without it. Might add a bit for more natural look but will cycle first and decide later.

As for fish kind on going back and forth but will definitely try to keep it peaceful for this size tank.

Likely stocking

Canary Benny
Blue assessor
Helfrichi Firefish
Pink Streak Wrasse

The fish choices sound perfect. Blue Assessor are not that easy to come by. The Cannary colors would compliment the Assessor.
Did you get the lid? You will need it.

Yes, the tank included a lid. I want to redo the mesh as it’s sagging a bit, another project…Maybe take the opportunity and do a smaller than the 1/4”. I lost some fish including firefish and wrasse that jumped thru a mesh lid in my other tank, so want to avoid having the same happen in this one.

Agree, the Blue assessor are not easy to come by. I saw a yellow one at TSA yesterday. Leah the lady from WWC used to have one (blue) in the nano display at the Winter Park store. I seen some maybe last year or so at that store. Pretty cool fish for a nano and the inverse swimming off overhang and cave makes it very interesting to watch. I didn’t knew they breed them. One would think they would be more readily available. Lasse here in R2R have/had a couple in his tank. I have my eyes on one online just need to cycle before it’s sold out.

Pink Streak will be a pain to find as well. I had one in a cart at Blue Zoo for my nano 25 , stupidly didn’t check out immediately and when I went back a few hrs later it was sold. Have been looking for one of those or the ever elusive possum wrasse for a month. Had a gold assessor . They’re very pretty and well tempered for sure.
