I recently bought an aquarium that came with a Ecotech M2 pump. The tank must have been taken down fast as saltwater, snails, and detritus was all left in the aquarium to be sold.

Anyways while taking the pump apart to clean it I noticed alot of black discoloration/gunk around the magnet, there was sand inside housing and after a thorough cleaning and allowing eveything to dry i still get a black dusting on my fingers off the impeller.

Im assuming this means the impeller is bad and needs replacing ? It doesnt appear cracked or worn. Whatvis everyones experience with magnetic impellers and replacement intervals?

Probably the sand got to it . I would put in a new impeller and see if that doesn’t fix it .
