So my calcium reactor came with a Syncra 1.5 circulation pump that had a ceramic shaft. That impeller lasted about two years. The only replacement impellers I have found, have stainless shafts. The pump really starts to chatter at the 6 month mark. The stainless shafts wear out much faster than the ceramic. They wear so badly that I can really feel the roughness and flat spots (I can’t see well enough but it’s extremely rough by feel). Does anyone know if impellers with ceramic shafts are available anywhere? @AVAST Marine has the stainless shaft impellers on sale occasionally for $10 which is a great deal! I mean it’s probably a wash price wise (replacing stainless impellers every 6 months vs a ceramic every 18-24 months). Just curious if Sicce Syncra 1.5 ceramic shaft impellers are even available?

Bump for a great question.

I have broken so many ceramic shafts trying to take impellers apart that I got to liking metal ones, but both kinds have there own fail points. It would be nice if these ceramic shafts were a standard diameter and length for all pumps so that they could easily be replaced, as needed, without difficulty.

Does anybody know where to get these ceramic shafts?

Ha! Yeah I’ve broken one or two as well. Gyres can be a pain if you need to get to the actual midsection, especially for me. The others were from my clumsy azx dropping them, or due to magnetic force slamming them against something. Definitely fragile. The ph of a calcium reactor isn’t a friendly environment for metal, even stainless, though. One would think that if a Sicce branded pump (not an oem rebadge) came with one originally, that they would be available for purchase. I haven’t had any luck though. The reactor manufacturer is no help either as they have changed names now and don’t really have any replacement parts available.

Well, I did find just the ceramic shaft with rubbers (no impeller) as a replacement part for $7 but no one sells them that I could find. Well, in the USA anyway. There was one website, but it was sketch and I’ve never heard the name. Seems odd, I guess I’ll just keep rolling with the stainless versions.

I miss the good old days of using the Bi G search engine before everything got hidden or buried behind a pay wall unless they paid the engine to provide the results.

Oh man, don’t get me started. My gramps always downloaded viruses and malware (unknowingly and by accident) on his pc, before iPads, tablets, and smart phones. I was a pro at wiping hard drives, overwriting, wiping, and reinstalling everything (kids nowadays wouldn’t know the struggle, it was a very long process with floppy’s, even still with cds and dialup). I felt badly for him as he was always crushed and embarrassed when it happened. Well now that I’m blind as a bat, I feel his pain. It’s impossible (well not impossible, but not as easy as by the eye) to tell legit sites. It’s pretty much guaranteed that anything that pops up in a search that’s sponsored ends up being sketch. You would think there would be some verification process for paid search top hits. Anyway, now I’m the one afraid to click anything! Knock on wood, I haven’t had an issue (don’t jinx it dummy) yet. It is top of mind though. Getting old ain’t for wussies! Ha

Sicce customer service got back to me and provided a link to purchase direct through them. $7 a piece for the ceramic shaft with rubbers. Not a bad price. Of course shipping is additional…..glad I wasn’t in a hurry! Seems a bit spendy for a couple toothpicks! I bought the impellers from @AVAST Marine as they are awesome and deserve any little business they can get….well, that aanndd they’re half the price plus I needed more jerky. Too bad they don’t have people jerky, well not made from people but for people…to eat, you know.
