Importing Fish as an Individual

Hi guys,

I live in the UAE (Dubai) and I’m facing an issue with most of the LFSs here selling diseased fish. When the fish isn’t diseased it’s being sold for 2-4x its actual price when compared to shops from around the world. This is preventing me from having the fish of my dreams as their prices are extremely unreasonable and exploitive.

Hence, I am trying to find ways to ship fish from the USA to Dubai but the problem is that suppliers/retailers either don’t ship directly to the UAE, or if they do, they want to sell to businesses only.

How can I overcome this problem? Has anyone tried to tackle this before?

Have you considered trying to treat the fish yourself? We have a whole section here on fish disease, treatment and quarantine, and many experts (not me!) that can help you.

I know it's less than ideal to purchase a fish that you know has some disease, but given your local and your situation, this may be the most practical way to go, unless someone may know how to overcome the shipping limitations.
