That's exciting. Looks really nice. What are you doing with the smaller sump on the right of your last picture?

Its a frag tank, its all set up now and I glued all the little nubs of my sps that broke off during the move. It should be able to fit 30-40 small/med frags. Can post pics of it later. Its a 15 column drilled to drain into the sump, it is fed by one of the drain lines.

Next came the stressful part, the actual move. We drained the all the water we could into a 75 gallon tank, and placed all the fish and the majority of the coral in there. The rest went into a separate bin or buckets. I rinsed out the sand from the 90 with salt water (to remove detritus) and returned it to the 125 with the addition of 40lbs of new live sand. We didnt have enough water (thought I did, clearly not), so everything sat tight with heaters over night. The following day we competed the transfer. The final picture is before I installed my AIs. As of now, everything is looking good, I will post later today. Got my water tested, everything seems good. I was afraid of a slight nitrate spike, but hopefully that will not be the case. The 125 has been running for 4 days now.

This was excellent. Funny, when people ask me about moving tanks first thing I always say is make way more saltwater than you think you will need.

And for sure will be #1 on my list next move. This was my third tank move, but i think my issue was the size of the sump plus frag tank. Also, transferring from a 90 to a 125 is only a 35 gallon addition, however, I didnt add any new rocks so with displacement in the 90, there was probably 70 gallons or less in the display. This translated to not near enough water when I filled the 125. ;Nailbiting

Here are some post transfer pics. I ordered a third hydra 26 from brs, should get here next week. Everything is looking good so far.

I ordered a lid for the frag tank, should also be ready next week. I need to design some type of bracket for the light.

The clowns love to host the massive toadstool. We call it Eywa, named after the tree of life from the movie Avatar.

Awesome looking tank! How difficult is it having a tank in Antarctica? I’ve always wondered that...

So the first order of business was to design and build the stand. As the 90 gallon is a taller tank, the 125 would have sat lower if we used the same stand height as the previous tank. Instead, we designed a very tall stand, but after it was complete, I am glad we did, the tank sits nicely at eye level.

Doors soon to come!
Hey, I don't think this thread included a picture of your stand with the doors on. I'm reviewing old threads to inform my build and I'm really looking yours.

Can you tell me about the top? Is that plywood? Did you use a router on the edge of it?

I'm very concerned about how my diy stand will look and want to copy your top edge.

Also, how did you like silicone paint?

Havent been on in a while. Sorry for late reply. I cant include a pic with doors on because we never added the doors :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:. The tank underneath is cool to look at and I run the fuge at late hours so we just never put them on.

The top was ply, like 3/4" i think. We used a jigsaw to cut the bottom panel to fit around the legs, but top we just used a table saw and then added trim w/ finishing nails. The paint worked great. Still looks good as new.

Hey everyone, amazing that this tank is almost 3 years old. I am going to post some updates later. Everything is going well. I changed direction slightly, and sold a lot of my more sensitive corals to some LFS in my area a year ago. I mostly have my softies and LPS now. I travel a lot so my tank is kind of in 'set it and forget it' mode. I just do monthly water changes and feed heavily and everything still grows great.

so i always thought the coolest thing about my build was the included 15-column tank. After selling off most my sps, i moved some of the softie colonies i frag down there, and grow frags here before moving to the 125. I have experimented with the light setting. I use the saxby setting on my AI Prime, but I turned the whites up. The sofites love it. Thinking of doing the same in my 125 but not sure how the LPS will react.

I need to do some algae scraping here, but the system really runs its self. I think a coral banded shrimp or something would be good to eat the left overs of the damsel and filefish here.

Got the salt mixed and did a 20-gallon water change.

I estimate my system is a total of 184 gallons. My math: 125 gallon display + 15 gallon frag/holding tank + 44 gallons of sump contents (i think my sump is 80% full, 20% of 55 is 11, 55-11=44).

I try to do a 10-20 gallon change a month. I don't dose, so it's just for replenishment of elements used by my LPS. A 10% water change is 18 gallons. I dont think my bio load/calcium uptake is that significant enough to justify a monthly change of more than this.

Tank residents showing their classic post-water change confusion.
