Following a long process, that started with the re-election of president Jokowi, in spring. Then in September, a new fisheries minister was nominated. from then it all went pretty fast. End of November it was decided to re-open the maricultured coral industry. Beginning of December a survey of all ocean farms from registered company was […]

Kinda lost interest in fancy torch now that they available again ;)
Prices wont be changing and availability wont go through the roof.

People are really in for a shock if everyone thinks indo corals will all of a sudden become $50 a head or frag.

Indo knows what it's got and that's why they are starting back the way they are....

Little shops wont be able to get much of anything for any good price. There is 1 importer at the moment and all the large box stores (WWC just as an example) will be buying most of if not all the shipments and then turning around and selling at the SAME (or close to) prices that everything is selling for NOW.

They also raised the import fees a ridiculous amount. The local reef specialist shop that builds, stocks, maintains reefs is on the list of buyers and was told the new pricing and fees for importing. He told me not to hold my breath for any price reduction and in fact they way they are charging for importing it is going to make it near impossible to get much at first and be able to sell it for any less for now nor in the near future.

This is GREAT news.....HOPE THE PRICES DONT STAY WERE THEY ARE!

In other words he's spouting garbage to create a false sence of costs and hoping prices stay high. Common sales tactic. Using words like RARE, Hard to get, Impossible.. Marketing spin.

lol

Think what your want but what does logic tell you, it's a buisness just like any other, Prices are set and followed.

I WANT THE PRICES LOWER THAN ANYONE!!!

I am just not being naive about how things work.

Exactly, will it go down to $50 a head over night? No, but eventually things will level out. Will there always be people trying to spread misinformation and is deceptive marketing tactics? Yes, but the market will have lower costs simply because there is more suppliers.

That's my point!

But aussie aren't even cheap...why do people think this will ever make Indo cheap?

It will happen but not much lower. Australian corals is a perfect example, same high price and high supply.

Am I excited? No ... not really. I may check out if it does show up but it really depends on my mood. I'm happy the way it is after the Indo coral ban "hiatus" .... there's just too many surprises to begin with after each shipment ... regardless.

The so-called high end vendors are accustomed to a certain profit margin, which, from what I have seen, tends to sit around: Frag price = their cost to buy the colony x 2. It can vary based on the fads of the time, but that's usually pretty close. They will do everything they can to keep this model going as long as possible; they'd be foolish not to. My guess: There will be an unspoken but understood agreement as to what certain things will cost. Same for the exporters. Because we are obsessive junkies with collectoritis who can't help ourselves, the demand curve for our hobby is very shallow. In fact, at certain price ranges, it probably behaves as though it were inflexible. For a few corals, I'm actually pretty sure it reverses (the pricier it is, the more people want it and buy it). They'll charge a fortune for these indo corals, and we'll love them for it.

They were never $50/head anyways. It will probably level back out to around $100/head though

Not holding my breath but fingers crossed. Once you cross a threshold it's hard to go back in anything. Gas prices for example. When they first went over a dollar people freaked and bought little cars now over 3 in some parts of the country is normal and we still buy bigger vehicles.

As anything in life. I will believe it when I see it.
