I have a 40 gallon tank that I upgraded the heater from a 100 watt haggar heater to a inkbrid titanium 200 watt heater. My issue is that with the ink bird 200 watt combo the heater can not maintain 78 degrees over night. I get a E5 alarm which means the heater was on for more the 4 hours. and the morning temp is 75 degrees. after reseting the heater it took 3 hours to get to 78 degrees. My 100 watt heater holds the temp just fine.
I just wanted to do a up grade of the heater.
Any help out their?

Yes it is. I did contact them.

Let us know what they say, I'm curious because it should be able to handle your 40g unless your ambient air temp is very low.

after reseting the heater
I assume that means 'resetting the thermostat'? A 200w heater will provide exactly twice the heat of a 100w heater, so I would assume a thermostat issue (though what sort of issue, I don't know).

Putting the heat element on a watt meter to check power draw might be an interesting troubleshooting step, though. Once you've established that it is indeed a 200w element, you might hook it up to the Inkbird and see what the wattage draw is, to see if the Inkbird is throttling it somehow.

I did hook the inkbird to a meter that I have that gives me the dollar valuve of a giving time. The meter showed me that the Inkbird 200 watt used 66 cents of electric and the 100watt used 57 cents for a 24 hour period.

Last night I set the Inkbird at 78 degreesand theHaggar at 76 degrees. The Inkbird gave me a alarm at 4 am. At 7:30 am the Haggar held the temp at 76.5 degrees.

I think I am going to return the Inkbird get another Haggar. Will there be a avantage to getting 200 watts verses 100 watt?
The current Haggar is going on 3 years old andwould like to upgrade.

Well, knowing that the elements are each drawing their rated wattages would be useful info as well.

But, if the 200w is consuming more power over time than the 100w, then it is a bit hard to explain how the 200w is heating less effectively than the 100w (since all heating elements are equally efficient at converting electricity to heat). Although, if there's an intermittent fault in the 200w element, I suppose it could simply be randomly cutting out and letting the temp drop, but I don't know how likely that sort of fault would be.

Given all the info you've provided, my guess is that the fault is with the Inkbird not holding temp at setpoint. You could troubleshoot this by figuring out whether the Inkbird is sending power to the 200w element when the temp is below the setpoint on the Inkbird. Then you'd know which equipment to replace, and what info to put on a return request.

BRS was very helpful ad are sending me another heater.

My 40g runs great on a 100w BRS titanium and Inkbird, so unless your tank is in a really cold place, probably some faulty equipment. (Mine sits in front of a really drafty window and it’s ok).

Thankyou my 100 watt heater always maintained temp well. I just wanted to upgrade and thought the 200 watt would work better. The company is sending me a new heater. I did try the heaters in 4 gallon buckets, the 100 watt heater took 1.5 hours to heat the water from 48 degrees to 78 degrees and the 299 watt took 2:15 to go to 78 degrees from 48 degrees.
Thankyou

Like sam7 said faulty heater. Just for perspective I only have 1 500 watt heater in my 600 gal system and 1 500 watt backup set 1 degree higher and rarely does the 2nd one come on.

I received a replacement heater and it maintains the temp from 78 to 78.5 degrees. It has not dropped below 78 degrees.
Thankyou everybody

300w for a 80 gallon :O i have a 650w on my 94 gallon lol

No clue, I went based off BRS recommendation, besides in SoCal so my heaters rarely turn on.
