Inline Filter instead of filter sock?

I do not have the ability to have filter socks in my aquarium. My water if full of particles that I feel a filter sock would remove. Is there any other option for me to clarify my water with out having a filter sock? Does anyone know of any inline or canister filters I could add that would only be mechanical and take some filter pads. I am stuck and can't find anything online.Please help.

A cainster filter will work. A hang on back filter is something you should concider. They are much eaiser to clean, provide good circulation and will keep disolved oxygen levels up. I have a aqueon HOB filter. Ther first compartment has filter floss the second ceramic rings and rubble to act as a fuge. My HOB filter get alot more gunk out of the water them my sump filter pads do.

I was thinking along the same lines.

What size tank do you have?

To the left is filter floss from one of my hob filters. It has been in for about a 3 days. To the right is a filter pad from my wet dry.That has been in for about a week.

I am running 4 on my 265 gallon and 1 on my 40. Whatever coral is underneath the water fall always grows fast and has polyps extended. O assume it is because it is getting fed all day and night.
