Set up a new Red Sea Reefer G2+ Max S 700 3 months ago. 150ish gallons. Started with dry rock and some bio bricks from LFS to seed the tank. Added a variety of bottled bacteria along the way. I wanted to make a quick post about the dosing I am doing because the acro growth and polyp extension is bonkers. The tank is covered in coraline algae already and the acros are growing significantly faster than my other 200 gallon tank at my office. Just dosing All for Reef for my office tank.

Anyway, this is what I have been doing in the new tank, but not in the old tank.

Tank metrics are in image below. Dosing All For Reef + BRS Calcium and BRS Soda Ash as needed. Also, quick video of the tank here....

Monday
  • KZ Flatworm Stop - 5ml
  • KZ Acro Glow - 1ml
Tuesday
  • KZ Flatworm Stop - 5ml
  • Microbacter Clean - 10ml
  • NeoNitro - 8ml
  • Red Sea AB+ - 20ml
  • Benereef- 2.5 tsp (mix AB+ in with Benereef)

I observed the same whenever I setup a new tank, acro frags always grow faster than “old” tank. Perhaps it is a new tank so that the trace elements in water are still in check. Besides you dose lot of bottled bacteria which will feed acro as well. Watch out for the KZ Flatworm Stop, used to dose daily with 2/3 recommended dose for a month in July and my ICP come back with creepy high Iodine (0.16 mg/l) and Copper (9mg/l). Then I stopped dosing for a month and August ICP comeback with normal number.

Fyi: I also love BacterClean, awesome product, still dosing every other day for 5 months now in my tank, keep sand bed, rock super clean.

Interesting with the Flatworm Stop. Were you using multiple bottles during that time or just one? Wondering if you got a bad bottle or something. I have not done ICP test on new tank yet, but its on to do list.

I don’t think I got the bad bottle, also if you search around Reef2Reef, some people observed the same issue too.

It's not a bad bottle. I stopped dosing iodine because it was off the charts when i dosed lugols and flatworm stop. Not knowing ingredients or details like this is annoying and just show up on ICP.

I've just been dosing all for reef in my reefer 250 after a complete reboot and rock replacement in June. Coraline algae is growing everywhere and my first acros are surviving, first time acros for me.

Love the simplicity of all for reef.

Your tank is looking amazing!

Nice congrats on your acros finally getting going. Yeah I wasnt a huge fan of all for reef right away just because you cant control the ratios, but after I got another doser and hooked up simple soda ash and calcium from BRS it works perfectly and you can adjust as needed. Also, the soda ash gives the tank a little PH boost which AFR does not do.
