Interceptor and Shrimp

How likely is it that Interceptor will kill my Cleaner and Fire Shrimp if I do not remove them from the display tank while treating for red bugs? My tank is 120 gallons with a 30 gallon sump. I plan to use 1 pill to treat the whole system (about 100 gallons of water).

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to remove my snails as well or just the hermit crabs? Also, will it kill Asterina starfish?

It certainly may kill them Ricky. However, I have done Interceptor treatments many times and I only lost 1 fire shrimp (out of 3). So there is a chance they will make it. Will have no effect on snails or stars....the hermits will die for sure if left in. They are just too small to make it through....

+1 on the crabs, I also had a pistol shrimp that lived through a treament but lost cleaners, and 1 fire shrimp.

+1 will kills shrimps, hermit crabs ( sometimes the large hermit crabs might make it)

Snails will make it.

it will def kill all crabs copopods and shrimp. 1 pill treats 300g. treat for your tank size and in 2 weeks dose again and 2 weeks later again. stir the sand , plug the skimmer air intake but keep it running and 6 hours after dosing a 30% water change and new carbon

You have about the exact same situation I had. I did one treatment, and lost the fire shrimp, but the cleaner made it.

I made two different bottle traps, one with a 16 ounce Gatorade bottle and one with a 32 ounce Gatorade bottle. The shrimp know the food is in the bottle but don't want to venture into the bottle. Any suggestions? Should I just treat the tank with Interceptor and when the shrimp are a little out of it I can scoop them up or is this a risky option?

Not true. Corals, snails, etc., etc. are all invertabrates and it does not kill them.

The active drug (we care about) in Interceptor is Milbemycin Oxime. This chemical is active against Nematodes (which is heartworms in dogs) and certain arthropods. Red bugs (Tegastes acroporanus) are one of those certain arthropods.

I didnt lose any of my shrimp when I used it, but I did lose all of my crabs including my acro-crabs. That sucked.

When you treated the tank did you lose your shrimp?

condor....... why on earth would you say stir the sand bed. Iv never stirred and interceptor killed them completely off. Stirring the sand bed will release some stuff that should not be released hah.
