I’ve been doing some reading on Euphyllia eating white bugs on my torch coral. This coral in specific i got bought from someone, i have hammers and torches in the tank before i added the new torch and something seemed off from the get go. One day i saw some flourencent bugs crawling on it and low and behold it was white bugs. The torch is doing great but retracts during the day around 4-5 times so these bugs are irritating it. With a UV light and lights off i can see how bad the infestation is and it’s only on the one torch, haven’t seen it on any other coral. The question i have is i don’t want to dose the whole tank with interceptor and just want to dip the one torch affected. After reading through numerous threads one person did a successful dip with interceptor instead of dosing the whole tank. I have the interceptor in hand, 23mg with prazi( chewable pill) and want to see if anyone has done a interceptor dip at what dosage with how much tank water. Thanks!

Since they're nice and easy to see, seems to me that mechanical removal would be the thing to try.

A piece of air line tubing + a piece of rigid tubing fit to the end would make a good siphon device to suck them off the coral. You can bend the rigid tubing to a 10º-20º angle to make it easier to get into nooks and cranny's.

If it's just one frag, seems like it shouldn't take long.

While white bugs are more of a nuisance than harmful, fish such as 6 line wrasse, yellow coris or springieri damsel will eat them. If you choose interceptor (used for black bugs). white bugs feed on the tissue of smooth skinned acro corals and while most dont kill coral, its their growth and reproduction rate thats an issue. They are a type of copepod bug and yes interceptor pill crushed is often a solution to knocking them down.
Do realize interceptor can and will likely kill inverts, crabs-shrimps-pods and I therefore recommend removing all inverts OR treat the coral in a separate tank without inverts and will also reduce amount of the interceptor needed.
Treat 3 times a week for 3 weeks at 25mg per 20 gallons of water. Each pill needs to be ground up with a hammer and should treat about 400 gal. Do application initially. About 8 hours later, add another. Then blow the coral GENTLY with a turkey baster and 8 hours later add another dosage. DO NOT repeat until day 7 doing another 3 treaments every 8 hours.
REMOVE CARBON AND TURN OFF ANY UV STERILIZERS AND SKIMMER UNITS.
Each 7 day periods, do a water change and siphon surfaces.

  1. You need the 51-100lb (23mg) plain interceptor (not plus)
  2. 1 pill per 100g at a minimum
  3. Treat every week for 3 weeks

Thank you so much i’ve seen your reply on this topic on other threads and really appreciate the advice, as a last resort i will do this but for now i would like to treat the bug individually which may sound stupid as it could be all over the tank but then again there’s not much info on “white bugs” it almost seems as if it’s not a common issue and i got handed with the worst possible outcome( odds not being in my favor) or people don’t really know they have this bug and it was sheer luck i noticed these bugs as they are super tiny. Thanks man!
