Interesting new polyps, what am I looking at here

I've had this frag sense late November and it's been a pretty happy camper. Something I noticed a few weeks ago is that it appears to have sprouted a ton of new polyps in-between the existing nodules. I met today with the guy I got it from and he said he's never seen a frag of this or any other acro do this.

Have you guys/gals observed this sort of growth? Is this normal growth?

Is it happening just on that row? If so, it is just growing towards the light. I had that happen on some frags that I laid down parallel to the rock. Looks like that is what is happening here.

It looks as if the coral is beginning to grow a new directional branch. That's a pretty good sign you're doing something right.

This is the only direction the coral can be seen from so I can't tell if polyps are appearing on the other side. Growing toward the light sounds like the simplest explanation, and the simple answer is usually correct.

Cool, that's what I'm hoping. I suppose I expected that would just be an existing polyp taking off. but if it wants to try growing in dozens of new directions all at once I don't mind. :D
