I am using a black Hawaiian sand in one of my tanks. Been up for a few years now and it's doing great!

Welcome! Love the look of the dark substrate. You chose some fast growing corals. Keep an eye on the green star polyp and (I think) clove polyps, they will quickly grow over everything. Helps if you isolate them on their own islands, like you have with the PVC and the clove polyp rock in the front of the tank.

Is that an anemone in the top right?
