Introducing my first fish to tank.

Used to be adding a damsel or two to a cycling tank or a new tank, was the way to go. Now I hear it's clowns, maybe even triggers, but I really don't want them in my tank. Can I get wrasses??

Best way to cycle a tank is with no fish at all. Look up fritz turbo start, Dr Tims and biospira.

Don’t use live fish to cycle your tank.

I personally used Instant Ocean Bio-Spira, and it cycled my tank in only 4 days. I then waited 3 days to add my first fish to the tank.

I would leave the lights off for the 1 week though, just so the bacteria spreads faster.

My tank is cycled waiting for first fish but I want to know can I use a
wrasses

aside from the ethical challenge i can't imagine risking a $200 trigger to cycle my tank when ghost feeding accomplishes the same task

If your tank is cycled you can add any size appropriate fish you want. Except for dragonettes

Although Triggerfish are Hardy I probably wouldn't go that way and who would pay $200 for a Triggerfish for a cycle when I can one for $30 .

as they say, location is everything. that is what a sargassum or blue throat trigger goes for in mid-west Canada

Don't go with trigger fishes. They're way too expensive and not as forgiving. Don't go with damsels either.. They'll own the tank for the next generation. I'd go with a couple of clowns that have been at the fish store for at least a month. Dr Tim's is also a great product to cycle the tank (but don't use both options at the same time obviously).

As long as you add biospira and add one or two wrasse, you should be fine.
