Hey everybody I’m David. I have 2 kids and a beautiful wife that keep me busy. I have a million different hobbies my favorite are keeping aquariums, discussing KISS with buddies on our podcast “Hooligan Nation”, collecting records and playing video games.

I’m currently a freshwater only guy keeping common goldfish and betta fish (separate tanks. I know!) I am getting more and more into the hobby and I am beginning to consider my first saltwater tank. I would love to build a pretty reef and keep some clown fish with the intention to try breeding them in a few years. I have almost zero knowledge of how to go about this. I look forward to discussing this goal and making new friends that have tips and a passion for reef keeping. This board will be a huge resource for me during this journey. Thanks in advance and I look forward to growing in the hobby with you all!

Welcome Young Man!!! Before jumping in, I would study up before starting. At the very least parameters, how to measure and what each parameter is and what it means to the tank as well as cycling. There are several different methods. Try BRS's 52 weeks in reefing (something like that). Yes, they are selling products as well as information transfer, so you're gonna have to research all your hardware. Anyway, great to have you!

Thank you so much! As stated I have zero knowledge so I will start with what you suggested as I study. It will be a while before I am ready to put fish to water for this project but I wanted to get a jumpstart on the knowledge end before I did something disastrous.

Good. I actually started with no knowledge myself and that was the WRONG way to do it, lol! I was SO lucky I was successful. The key to saltwater is patience. If you rush, there are going to be ramifications. Be aware that it may be a year before you can do anything really meaningful. And you spoke of goals. Very important, goals are. Both short and long term.
