Invert proofing a fusion20?

My tank is finally cycled so I got 3 inverts to keep in there for a few weeks before adding fish. Grabbed a porcelain crab, dwarf banded coral shrimp and a tiny peppermint shrimp.

I woke up this morning and somehow the peppermint shrimp was jammed in the tiny slot of the flare nozzles.

I'm wondering 1) how this could happen since that nozzle shoots water out, not sucks water in

And 2) since I want to keep only micro fish and inverts in this tank, what precautions can I take now to make sure no other fish/inverts get sucked into any other area of the tank they shouldn't?

I would handle this the same way people with anemones do. The put sponges over powerheads, overflows, and anything else that can pose a risk. Kind of an interesting situation with your shrimp. Are you planning on keeping corals and if so what kind?

Sponge is a great idea, just need to make sure I constantly wipe away debris so it doesn't get clogged. The shrimp issue is very strange.. it wasn't just on the outside of the flare, it was actually half sucked into it with just legs sticking out.

I used to keep a lot of zoanthids years ago. It was nothing but a money pit so the plan for now is just fish only. Maybe an anemone for the shrimp but that's it.

You got the idea[emoji6] That's good Coral wise. I know peppermint shrimp sometimes have a tendency to munch on LPS.
