I don't think any iodine forms are useful to most reefers as a supplement, but if I were to dose it, I'd dose iodide.

I did dose it for years, but after stopping, saw no difference. many people experienced the same result.

I discuss the chemistry differences here:

There's no evidence in any scientific literature that they need any.

I dose Seachem iodide,,I have very heavy load of zoa/palys,,I cannot keep up with Iodide if i was replenishing iodine/iodide with water changes,,I dose once a week and see positive results the same day with dosing..i do 10% WC bi-monthly and skim fairly heavy..

I've not seen any convincing evidence that zooanthids benefit from, or even are capable of consuming, iodine. Most reefers cannot keep up with iodide by water changes since it is rapidly depleted in all reef tanks by algae (if not anything else they keep). It depletes from natural seawater levels to none detectable in a few days in many reefs tanks, including mine, but was still not beneficial to dose. :)

Curiously, Seachem Reef Iodide is not even iodide. It contains other stuff too that they claim alters the chemical properties of the iodine.

Me?

My tank is not currently up, but for 20 years, this was my regimen:

Limewater (kalkwasser) for calcium and alkalinity.

Slight boost to magnesium in the normal IO that i used for water changes (1% daily).

Iron and silicate DIY supplements once a week or so.

Triton testing of my tank showed a few other trace elements that might have been advantageous to supplement (molybdenum, manganese, vanadium), but I didn't do so:

So would I.

"Unlike competing products, Reef Iodide™ is complexed to a stabilizing compound in order to keep it in the iodide form when added to the aquarium."

I think this needs to be looked into more than we assume. Back when I started long ago you were able to purchase lugols iodine for $10.00 for a 500 ml bottle. Everyone you talked with dosed it . Now it is a controlled and not sold over the counter anymore. So we don't know the strength of the solution that is sold to us. Yes small bottles are availably on line or local fish store. I was dosing heavy and sent in a Triton test it was 7 x over the limit . The tank showed no ill affect. A year later I was 1/2 under the normal amount of sea water . So I have gone onto the Triton Iodine product of 2.5 ml a day on a 1200 gallon system. I am not recommending this for everyone . Each tank has its own personality do what is best for the health of what you are trying to keep in top notch health.

So, their just trying to sell a product that we really don't need ?
(like so many zillions of products)

lol

There are tons of useless aquarium products, or those with claims that do not match the ingredients. Some are just so foolish that we occasionally post them for giggles and grins.

In this case, they may well believe it is useful, and some reefers believe it is useful. I'm not among them. I can't prove it isn't useful. :)
